Collins and New York State Leaders Praise Inclusion of NYS Property Tax Reduction Language in Senate Obamacare Repeal Bill
Jun 23, 2017
Press Release
Provides largest property tax reduction ever to WNY; holds Albany accountable for Medicaid spending.
Federal law now permits states to share some of their costs with local
governments, but New York is the only state that has imposed this level
of burden on property taxpayers. Counties currently have no say in how
local revenues are spent on Medicaid; they’re simply required to foot
part of Albany’s bill. Local state leaders agreed that the inclusion of
the amendment is important and welcome news for Western New York
residents.
Medicaid Fight Lands in New York, Crossing Party Lines
The state’s counties currently pick up 13 percent of the total cost of Medicaid, a tab that is expected to top $8 billion in the coming fiscal year, though much of that is in New York City. Some other states also require counties to cover some Medicaid costs. But residents of New York pay far more than those in other states, according to the New York State Association of Counties — something that has been blamed for high property tax rates in many parts of New York.

I ask, I have paid into Medicare my whole working life, should I or someone else
continue to pay health care once they retire and are on a fixed income. They do, every month money is taken out of their Social Security to pay for
their health care, Medicare, and still have co-payments. And still have to pay for their
own heath care, be that Blue Cross and Blue Shield , or other health care to pay for what
Medicare doesn't pay for, IE, Prescription drugs. This amounts to thousands($$$) of dollars a year.
Total could be over $5,000 a year. FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH CARE!!
NOW, how about paying for someone else health care for the rest of your life.
It's called Medicaid. The county is mandated by the NY state to pay a portion of Medicaid, It amounts to 60% of the property tax.
This could also be over $5,000 a year, for someone's other than your healthcare!!
Now your paying over $10,000 a year for healthcare, and you may be on a fixed income.
And some people (mostly Liberals) think that is just fine.
But if you want it done fairly, you should have Medicare for all, and pay for it with a 14% tax on the working people.
Not the retirees who paid into it their whole lives, and continue to pay for it. Once you retire you should not have to pay for healthcare for any but yourself.
