Once more New Yorkers have the burden of paying the highest tax rates in the nation, a ranking that has lasted for decades.
The Tax Foundation, using information from various sources for the year 2010, reports that residents of the Empire State paid out 12.8 percent for state and local taxes compared to the U.S. average of 9.9 percent. Only two other states, each neighboring New York — Connecticut and New Jersey, topped the 12 percent plateau.
