Obama's Afghanistan war

“His plan comes up short. There’s not enough troops, not enough resources and not enough urgency. What President Bush and Senator McCain don’t understand is that the central front in the War on Terror is not in Iraq and never was. The central front is in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the terrorists who hit us on 9-11 are still plotting attacks seven years later.”

President Obama will outline his reasons for sending more troops to Afghanistan in an address to the nation Tuesday evening while stressing that the U.S. commitment is not infinite, his spokesman said Monday.

"You will hear the president discuss clearly that this is not open-ended," said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, who declined to give specific troop levels. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top commander in Afghanistan, asked for up to 40,000 troops.

When President Obama outlines his new Afghanistan strategy Tuesday night, higher troop levels will be only one of his subjects. The president is also planning to discuss more help from other countries, new responsibilities for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and plans to end the war now in its ninth year -- and to persuade skeptics that the troop hikes and higher costs are worth it.

"The president will reiterate the importance of why we're there," said spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Kliphnote: This is Obama's war. He won the election on the idea that we had to win in Afghanistan. I hope he doesn't talk about an " exit strategy " like they wanted Bush to do. I hope he says how we are going to win in Afghanistan. Not leave Afghanistan. If plans on leaving without winning, get out now. I am glad we didn't have an

"exit strategy" in WW 2.
