Biden's Clownish Smiles

Biden's Clownish Smiles Don't Greasepaint Away Lies

Debate: After President Obama hurt his own cause in his first debate, along comes Joe Biden to take it from bad to worse. No candidate has ever turned in a more dishonorable, dishonest performance.
Three and a half weeks before Election Day, with the BenghaziGate scandal and cover-up becoming ever more serious, Vice President Biden tried the strategy Thursday night of smiling all of President Obama's cares away.
The result: something akin to Stephen King's fanged clown "Pennywise" in the horror novel "It," who promises children their desires before attacking them.
The clash between Biden and GOP vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan started off with questioning on the Libya scandal, in which U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice claimed on a half-dozen TV shows, and repeated by the president himself on David Letterman, that our ambassador and three other Americans were killed a month ago after a protest of a YouTube video got out of hand.
It turned out there was no protest. But Biden once again claimed "we weren't told they wanted more security" at the Benghazi consulate, which had asked for increased security that day — the anniversary of 9/11. Biden was contradicting last week's sworn congressional testimony of State Department officials.
As Mitt Romney said in Richmond on Friday, Biden was "doubling down on denial."

Now Biden says the phony YouTube demonstration tale was "what we were told by the intelligence community" — which suggests the Obama administration's incompetence extends beyond not listening to U.S. diplomats to mismanaging the nation's spy agencies.

Among Biden's other lies:

Obama met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "a dozen times"
when it actually is less than half-a-dozen.

Ryan voted to "cut embassy security in his budget by $300 million below what we asked for" — a wild extrapolation of Ryan's proposed 19% cut in nondefense discretionary spending.

Double-counting ObamaCare's $716 billion Medicare cut to make it seem to be Medicare savings.

Claiming the Bush tax cuts should "expire like they're supposed to on those millionaires" when those affected, far from being tycoons, are families making over $250,000, many middle class with two earners.

The Benghazi untruth has a rival for being the worst of Biden's smiling deceits. Defending what he called Obama's "assault on the Catholic Church," Biden claimed "no religious institution, Catholic or otherwise ... has to either refer contraception" or "pay for contraception" or "be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact."

As the Catholic bishops noted, "This is not a fact. The (HHS mandate) contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain 'religious employers,'" but it does not include Catholic hospitals like the ones Biden mentioned, or other religious charities that serve all.

Catholic and non-Catholic institutions "will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage" that includes "sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients," which they will have to pay for.
It's nearly a century since that young kid pleaded "Say it ain't so, Joe" to Shoeless Joe Jackson during the Black Sox scandal. Our clownish vice president, Joe Biden, can't ever seem to say anything that's so.
