Union Card Check

Union Card Check

Let me start by saying that I was a union member for almost 40 years.

And let me also say the union endorses the Democratic candidate for president, always.
And it is no different this time. That is fine. They can do what they want.

But they do have a plan.
The union is hoping the Democrats have the presidency and control
of congress. http://www.aflcio.org/mediacenter/prsptm/pr06262008.cfm

That way they can get their Card Check passed.
The Employee Free Choice Act. (H.R. 800, S. 1041) This is forced unionism.
And NOT a secret ballot.
This is the pay back the union gets for funding political campaigns.
Unions serve a purpose, but they have work rules that can make a business unprofitable.
And with globalisation we need to be as efficient as possible.
If we are not we will lose jobs to those that are.

Let me repeat this, it is not a secret ballot.
This is a union official handing you a ballot and asking you to sign it.
You hand it back to him and he can see if you signed it or not.
This is not a secret ballot.

"With card checks, paid union organizers try to persuade workers to sign cards saying that they favor union representation. This persuasion is documented as frequently including deception, coercion, and harassing visits to workers' homes."

"The Employee Free Choice Act, put forward by Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., chairman of the Education and Labor Committee, also would strengthen penalties against employers that take illegal steps to dissuade collective bargaining and allow mediation and arbitration if both sides fail to reach a first contract.

The bill promises to set up a battle between Democrats beholden to their union supporters and Republicans backed by business groups opposed to the change.

Joined by AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and other union leaders, Mr. Miller decried the current procedures for organizing and bargaining, saying they are "stacked against the workers.''

His proposed legislation " is very simple,'' Mr. Miller said. "It says that if a majority of workers support a union, and have signed an authorization card, they get a union. that's it."

The union wants more members.
Don't get me wrong, I am not against unions,
but I am against shop rules that can
close a factory or business.
I also buy union made when I can, just as I buy

American made when I can.
If you think it doesn't matter, look at Europe.
Western Europe has a strong union presents.
And Europe has a higher unemployment and lower growth than the US.
It's been like this for as long as I can remember.
If you think the US is in an economic slow down, many parts of Europe wish they had it as good as we do.
