Why are we paying teachers?

Here’s how the US, which spends more per student than any country in the world, is doing vs. the world in math, science and reading.





Get that? Out of 34 countries, our tax dollars in conjunction with the US Department of Education and the National Education Association, has the US solidly in 26th place in math, 17th in reading, and 21st in science. We’ve bought our way into the top two-thirds.

The so-called educators with their centralized control, common core anyone?, have destroyed the best public school system in a mere 30 to 40 years. They have, however, done one heck of a job of taking care of themselves.
A teacher in Chicago costs the city’s taxpayers about $100,000. For a hundred grand per teacher the city’s schools graduate about 60% of the incoming freshmen and the average reading ability is right around the 6th grade.

In New York City, a teacher accused of molesting a student must be investigated by the “school police”. No action is ever taken so the teacher can’t be fired, the city puts them in a “rubber room” which is nothing more than a classroom with no students. The teacher collects full pay, does nothing, and can look forward to a prosperous retirement on the taxpayer’s nickel. Oh, some of those teachers have been in the “rubber room” since the 90s and are making over $100,000 per year plus benefits.

Yes, I know these are extreme examples. But given the poor performance of our kids, they’re not all that extreme.

Our schools need a major overhaul, starting with eliminating the US Department of Education and federal funding. Vouchers at the local level would give parents the ability to actually be involved in their kids’ education and would give kids a chance to get a real education.
